Inter-Regional Gold for Worcester Crocodiles Jacob

Worcester Crocodiles player Jacob Lewis returns from his first inter-regional tournament with a Gold medal.

The last weekend in November 2022 saw the U14’s Boys’ Inter-regional Championships take place at Walsall Gala Baths. Nine teams were split into two groups to battle for the title.

West Midlands Warriors were put in group A with London Sharks, East, Ireland and East Midlands. As always being the first competition in that age group what standard the other teams were was anyones guess.

The “Warriors” first match was against local rivals East Midlands. A comfortable win 8 – 4 to West Midlands ensured a good start to the weekends tournament.

Next was London Sharks and another comfortable win (4-2). The final match of the day was against Ireland. Always worrying an “international” fixture at this level but West Midlands Warriors kept it together claiming another victory (5-3).

Finishing the first day top of the table the team had an early start the next day with their final group match against East.

Another comfortable win against East meant they finished top of the table and faced 2nd placed North West Tigers from Group B in the first semi final. A game that was far more fairly matched the Warriors lived up to their name battling right until the end, in fact the last 20 seconds brought the winning goal to West Midlands. Final score West Midlands Warriors 9 -8 North West.

Gold medal match was against familiar Ireland. Having played them in the group stages this should be in the bag and it was. An easy 13- 6 win to West Midlands Warriors.

The second ever U14’s Inter-regional tournament win for The West Midlands boys’ we look forward to following the teams progress over the next 4 years.
